Setup tasks

  1. Review the standard fields in the Performance Review object and the Self Performance Review object to see if you want to add custom fields for your organization. For more information on how to create new custom fields, see Adding custom fields.

    Tip

    When adding new long text area fields, consider the maximum length the field actually needs. The default maximum, 32,768 characters, is likely more than you require. In English, depending on word length, it gives somewhere between 4500 and 8000 words. Having many text area fields with the maximum possible character length can lead to performance issues, so make sure new fields have a maximum length realistic for the purpose you are adding them. Setting the maximum to 5000 characters or fewer is sufficient in most cases.

    If you want to rename standard fields, you can do it in the Translation Workbench Override with the following filter selections:

    1. Package: Human Capital Management
    2. Language: English
    3. Setup Component: Custom Field
    4. Object: Performance Review or Self Performance Review depending on which one hosts the field you want to rename.
    5. Aspect: Field Label
  2. Enable performance review templates on the HCM package configuration page. If you do not want to use performance review templates for the entire organization, you can use the policy option for performance review templates for more control.

    Redesigned Performance Overview released in Y24.2 release requires performance review templates.

  3. Set up performance review templates. You can use the Sage People supplied standard templates as a starting point for editing or cloning, or create templates from scratch.

  4. Set policy options for performance reviews.

  5. If you selected Require Approval For Performance Review or Performance Review One Up Approves in the policy settings, set up an approval process.

  6. Set up action events for performance reviews. For a list of action events available, see Action events in the configuration options, and for more information about how to set up action events, see Creating action events.

  7. If you want WX users to complete performance reviews in the Performance Review process, create the Performance Review WX process.

If you use the Performance Overview process

If you use the Performance Overview process to surface performance reviews in WX, complete the setup tasks for it.

Reporting

Workforce Performance dashboard

A Workforce Performance dashboard is part of the standard Sage People configuration. It contains the following 5 charts: 

  • Have we achieved the appropriate distribution of ratings?

  • Where are our best performers located?

  • Where are our lowest performers located?

  • How are our team members progressing towards objectives?

  • What is the status of our performance reviews?

Report on continuous feedback

If you use continuous feedback as part of your performance reviews, or as continuous feedback on its own, and want to report on the comments, you can set up reports.

Additional configuration

Custom performance review PDF layout

You can generate a PDF containing the details of the performance review. By default, the layout and contents of the performance review PDF are determined by the PerformanceReviewPDF Visualforce page.

You can specify a custom Visualforce page for the PDF by creating a new page and then configuring the process to use it:

  1. Go to Setup, and in Quick Find enter visualforce, and select Visualforce Pages from the search results.
  2. On the Visualforce Pages list, select New.
  3. Enter the Label, Name and Description for the new page.

    The Label is used to identify the page in the Visualforce Pages list.

  4. Specify the contents of the Visualforce page in the Visualforce Markup box.
  5. Select Save.
  6. Go to Setup, and in Quick Find enter installed and select Installed Packages from the search results.
  7. For the Human Capital Management package, select Configure.
  8. Under Features, in the Page section, navigate to PerformanceReviewPDF.

  9. Enter the Label of the new Visualforce page in the Link column.
  10. Select Save.

HR noticeboard

Two HR noticeboard are available as standard for Sage People implementations, as detailed in the table:

To make changes to these noticeboards, from the App Launcher select HR Noticeboard. On the HR Noticeboard tab, select the All list view and select the HR noticeboard you want to edit.

Performance Review Feedback related list

Performance Review Feedback can be displayed in a related list on the Performance Review Detail page:

If Performance Review Feedback related list is not displayed by default you can add it:

  1. Go to Setup > Object Manager, and select the Performance Review object.
  2. From the sidebar, select Page Layouts.
  3. In the Page Layouts related list select Edit for the Performance Review Layout.
  4. On the Layout page, select Related Lists from the left panel.
  5. Drag and drop the Performance Review Feedback related list onto the page layout.
  6. On the Related List select Properties Icon: Wrench.
  7. In the list of Available Fields, select the fields you want to display and select Add to move them to the list of Selected Fields.

    To replicate the default layout, add:

    • Feedback Item: Feedback Item Name
    • Feedback Item: Review Date
    • Feedback Item: Reviewer
  8. Select OK to confirm your changes and close the Related List Properties dialog.
  9. Select Save on the Layout page to save the layout.
  10. If you are prompted to Overwrite Users' Related List Customizations, select Yes.

Next time you display a Performance Review Detail page, the Performance Review Feedback related list is included.
