GeoNames security enhancement to remote site settings: action required

Sage People Recruit uses the third party GeoNames database to provide locations for candidates, based on their addresses, and for vacancies, based on the location.

The Sage Peoplesupport team will carry out these steps when upgrading packages in customer orgs.

The Sage People Y25.1 release delivers a revised URL for the GeoNames service, changing it from using the http protocol to the more secure https. For all new Sage People Recruit implementations following the Y25.1 release the change is automatic. But for existing Recruit implementations you must change the URL manually:

  1. Go to Setup and in Quick Find enter remote site settings.

  2. On the Remote Site Settings page find the GeoNames Remote Site Name and select Edit.

  3. On the Remote Site Edit page change the Remote Site URL to https://ws.geonames.net:

  4. Ensure Active is selected.

  5. Select Save.

If you want to update your Sage People Recruit system for any missing geocodes, you can run a batch to populate geocodes for candidates:

  1. Go to Setup and in Quick Find enter installed packages.

  2. On the Installed Packages page find the Sage People Recruit package and select Configure.

  3. On the Sage People Recruit Configure page, Overview tab, scroll down to Populate Candidate GeoCodes and select Run Now:
